Marine Law

Thompsons’ marine law practice is the one of the most experienced in Northern Ireland when it comes to advising the local fishing fleet.

We deal with all aspects of marine and shipping law affecting the fishing industry in Northern Ireland. We act for fishing vessel owners and for the largest fish producers organisation in Northern Ireland, which has over 120 fishing boat members.

We specialise in advising the fishing sector on licence and quota issues as well as regulatory investigations and prosecutions and harbour law.

We also advise on re-financing assets and mortgaging vessels.  We also offer advice in the more general aspects of commercial law affecting the fishing industry, including property matters.

We advise and represent our clients in relation to Fatal Accident Inquiries, Merchant Shipping Act Inquiries and in criminal proceedings arising from shipboard and offshore accidents.

We provide specialist expertise in employment law issues arising in the maritime, shipping and fishing sectors. From recruitment to termination, our long-standing clients are given expert advice on all aspects of the employment relationship.
